Life, The Universe And Everything 2019 Writing (Gaming?) Convention

Next week Life, the Universe, and Everything (LTUE) (website) takes place in Provo, Utah. The conference has always had a focus for genre writers with an emphasis on fantasy and science fiction. What people are writing still fits in the genre category, but the audience base has been increasing.  Every year there have been additional areas added. This year there is a lot being offered for the attendees.

One of the areas that has been growing is gaming. Writing for games goes in a couple of main directions and this year there are writing tracks for board and electronic games. There is a growing appreciation of what's involved in writing and developing games. There will be advice and information for experienced and new game developers to help them build and market their work. It's fun and exciting to see the creativity.

Writing for screen also has a track. Along with writing screenplays, LTUE is hosting its own film festival with movies (features and shorts) being shown in the evenings. I'm looking forward to seeing some of the selected features. There are always interesting works coming from independent film makers. The talented writers involved in the panels and presentations of this track are going to have great information.

This year, I will be involved on four panels at LTUE in the Tabletop Game Writing/Development Track. The entire track is focused on helping people in developing their games and getting them to market, through traditional and self-publishing.

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in creating their own game, or for those who are working on getting their game to market. I'm asked questions on these topics regularly.

The panels I'm sitting on (which are only a few of the broader selection that will be available):

Intro to Board Game Design: A basic overview of the board game creation process, from theme to gameplay to balance.

Crowdfunding a Game's Development: As crowdfunding becomes an increasingly popular way to finance new games, how can the technology best be leveraged?

Developing Rules for Board Games: Once you've got your board game idea, how do you develop it into a playable game?

The Rising Popularity of Board Games: Board games have taken off in popularity in recent years. What caused this surge and where will it go in the future?

LTUE is shaping up to be three great days of learning, entertainment, and just plain fun (many writers love playing games of all types).

If you are going to be attending LTUE, please stop by and say hello. I'm always interested in meeting people who share similar interests.
